It is never too early to plan your personal legacy. Creating a formal plan for your assets and legal directives can reduce the burden on your children or relatives, reduce taxes, and give you peace of mind. Having a formal plan will also assure that the organizations and causes you specify will receive the assets you designate. A formal plan is important regardless of the size of your estate.
Trinity’s “Leaving a Legacy” brochure provides a brief overview of how Trinity can be a part of your legacy planning, and how a gift to Trinity will be administered and used.

The ELCA Foundation
The ELCA Foundation has a wealth of excellent legacy planning resources, including a Record Book and a Lesson Book. These downloadable booklets will help your planning with information about personal records, estate planning documents, wills, trusts, beneficiaries, charitable gift annuities, funeral planning, and other topics. The church office has printed copies of these booklets available, and can assist if you have difficulty finding specific information. A link to an independent online estate planning tool, Giving Docs, is also provided on the site.
Additionally, the site has links to multiple topics related to Gift Planning, and downloadable documents in a Planning Library.
Our ELCA Regional Gift Planner, Ryan Ebner, is available to help you at no cost. This is a service provided to ELCA members who are looking for assistance in planning their estate.
Other Resources
Trinity has established policies for administering gifts that are received. These gifts are invested in accordance with an Investment Policy and distributed in compliance with Trinity’s Bylaws. A summary document from the Annual Report of Trinity’s Mission Endowment Funds is available. Background information on the individual funds, both endowments and scholarships, is contained in documents that detail restrictions and uses.
There is an application form for Trinity’s scholarships (“Educational Opportunities for Christian Advancement Awards”.)
If you have a suggestion for the purchase of an item for which Trinity’s Endowments or Memorials might be the appropriate funding source, an application form is available in the church office.
